Andrew Mania was born in Bristol. He attended Falmouth School of Art (now University College Falmouth) and went on to complete his MA at Chelsea College of Art. He is represented by Vilma Gold Gallery London. Andrew has become known for his portraits featuring subjects that often stare directly back at the viewer. Surrounded by floral and abstracted decorative motifs, or with laser-like beams radiating from their faces, they evoke the mystical qualities of religious icons. Whether creating work through the act of drawing, collecting, sculptural assemblages or working with a video camera, Mania is often concerned with the act of looking itself.
