Simon Rees, born in New Zealand in 1972, was educated in Australia and New Zealand; and has held curatorial positions in both of those countries. After participating as a curator-in-residence in the IASPIS program (Stockholm) in winter 2003-2004 he re-located to Lithuania where he works as a curator at the Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius (CAC).
In that role Rees is co-editor of the journal CAC INTERVIU the quarterly conversation about art and is convenor of the monthly international lecture series the CAC Café Talks. Rees has made a number of exhibitions concentrated on crossovers between architecture/design/contemporary art and has also written catalogue essays and articles on the topic.
In particular he is interested in work that changes the bounds of the discipline, or re-routes perceptions of objects and buildings, into which it crosses over. In 2007 Rees was Commissioner for artists Gediminas & Nomeda Urbonas at the Lithuanian Pavilion in the '52nd International Art Exhibition’ La Biennale di Venezia. He is currently working towards the presentation of a series of Lithuania-France exchange exhibitions.
