Invigilating Worcester Open 2008
The Worcester Open 2010 Contemporary Art is a project led by the PITT artist-led space, Worcestershire Contemporary Artists in partnership with the main Worcester City Gallery. So it is important to note that this exhibition has been organised by artists for artists. The three exhibitions show over 300 artists and the eclectic and varied art practices from across the region and beyond.
What’s the difference between the three shows?
All artists who apply will have one work selected and displayed, this will be shown either at the PITT or the Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum. There is a selection process for both venues; however artists will be guaranteed an entry (upon delivery) of at least one artwork at the PITT or, if selected, at the Worcester City Art Gallery. The show at the PITT will be a Salon type display with anywhere in the region of 100 pieces at any one time; works will hang with very little space surrounding them, floor to ceiling and may be rotated throughout the duration of the exhibition. A traditional selection process is in place for the work chosen for the Worcester City Art Gallery; the work selected here will be limited to around 25 pieces, will remain in the gallery space for the duration of the exhibition and have more space surrounding the art works.
Why three shows?
This is the fourth year of the Worcester Open exhibition. The Worcester Open has never before had a selection policy, all works entered have been previously exhibited. In fact part of the critical framework of the show has been to examine and test the idea of the ‘Open’ exhibition. This exhibition will mix the two systems of; selection and non-selection, and also open up the opportunity to examine the professional roles within art institutions.
